When we don’t have clarity on our plans, it’s easy to feel lost. You might even run in the wrong direction and waste time and energy on things that you didn’t need to do in the first place. When you don’t evaluate the consequences and ask yourself important questions before deciding on important life plans, feeling lost in life becomes inevitable. So, if you’re at that point in life when you are trying to find life purpose, the personal growth questions below will come in handy. First, let’s begin by understanding why we feel lost.

Why Do We Feel Lost in Life?
Feeling lost in life generally comes from a lack of clarity in key areas of your life like career and relationships. It’s common to feel uncertain when we’re unsure about our life purpose or what to do next. Life events like the end of an important relationship, missed career opportunities, a serious health condition, or not having things go your way, in general, can make you feel lost. Many times, it’s difficult to know why you’re feeling lost, but you just feel aimless, like you’re on autopilot without a destination in mind.
Feeling lost might feel a lot like depression. You might feel de-motivated and uninterested in things that used to bring you joy. You might feel like life has lost its meaning, and you might feel unsure of the person you are. You might even struggle to remember your ‘old self’ and often find yourself asking what’s the point of your life. If this sounds like you, don’t lose hope, the following clarity questions will help you rediscover yourself and aid you in finding your purpose.

The Key Questions to Gain Clarity
When you’re finding clarity in life, it’s important to ask yourself certain life-changing questions and answer them honestly. The more you avoid them, the more you delay happiness in life. These questions will bring you closer to finding purpose and setting the course for your life ahead. Read on…
1. Am I living life according to my values?
Every individual has certain values that are dear to them, and betraying them can lead you to feel lost. It’s important to ask yourself if you’re living according to the values you set for yourself. For example, some people value honesty and integrity above anything else. But for whatever reason, if you’ve had to be dishonest about something at work or in a relationship, you might feel restless and uncertain.
2. What makes me feel fulfilled?
Ask yourself what truly fulfils you. It could be helping others, creating art or travelling. Whatever your answer is, write it down and find a way to do more of the things that will lead you to a life that allows you to do this thing that makes you feel fulfilled.
3. What would I do if I had less time?
In pop culture terms, ‘you only live once’ might be worth taking seriously. If you truly had little time left on this earth, what would be that one thing you would spend time doing in your last days to bring you joy? Far too many people delay pursuing their purpose when they’re older or when things get ‘better.’ And then they don’t realise when time just flies by. You truly don’t know what tomorrow will bring so it makes sense to prioritise your purpose today.
4. Am I honest with myself?
Are you ready to learn the truth about yourself and accept it? Many times we evade the real answer and run away from ourselves. The key is to become more self-aware and accept the good and bad in us. Because only when we acknowledge ourselves fully, do we become ready to move on to bigger things in life. Many of us don’t get this clarity till a life-changing event happens to us. But it is best to answer this question before life forces us to answer it the hard way.

What can I do right now to change things?
Write down what are some things you can and would like to change immediately to improve your life. Make a list of actionable items that you can work on. It could be making yourself more patient or empathetic. It could also mean finding ways to save money intentionally or starting to manifest your goals. The point is to do something immediately so that you feel motivated and feel like you’re doing something to turn your life around.
Additionally, here are a few more questions you could ask yourself to find life purpose.
- What do you wish you were more clear about today?
- What is working for you in the current situation?
- What happens if I do nothing in the current scenario?
- Who can I ask for help to find answers?
- What would I like to bring to the table?
- What do I want my legacy to be when I’m gone?
- Who and what brings out the best in me?
- What does my ideal life look like?
How to Reflect on These Questions
The best way to reflect on these questions is to try journaling and meditation. Find a quiet spot in your home where no one will disturb you. Sit in a comfortable position and try a short guided meditation to centre your mind and increase self-awareness. Then, open your eyes, take a deep breath and ask yourself these questions. Finally, give yourself time and let these answers come to you. Patiently write down the answers in your journal.
